SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Jenkins Athletic Club (JAC), a nonprofit providing a range of youth athletic programs and facilities for Savannah’s youth since 1933, is pleased to announce registration is open for the 4th Annual Clays for Kids sporting clays fundraiser. Hosted by the Jenkins Athletic Club board of directors, this fun, annual event will kick off at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020, at the Forest City Gun Club. All proceeds raised will benefit the Jenkins Athletic Club.
For nearly 90 years, the Jenkins Athletic Club has provided a safe and fun environment for youth to pursue the fundamentals of athletics and life skills. Today, the JAC offers a range of athletic programs and seasonal camps to boys and girls including year-round basketball leagues and seasonal sports including tee-ball, flag football, and more.
“We’re at an important moment in the history of the Jenkins Athletic Club,” said Mark Stevens, Clays for Kids event organizer and Jenkins Athletic Club board member. “The club is experiencing a significant uptick in demand for youth athletic programs, especially for first-timers and our younger age groups who are picking up a basketball or hitting a baseball for the first time. This makes events like Clays for Kids so important as they help the club afford and plan for facility upgrades and expanded programming.”
The 2020 winter basketball season has kicked off at the Jenkins Athletic Club for girls and boys teams and includes 6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U, age groups. “On any given day during winter basketball season, Monday through Sunday, the gym is packed with players, parents, and grandparents. The growth really underlines the impact the club has on the community and our need to ensure all kids and teams who would like a chance to play at the Jenkins Athletic Club can be accommodated,” said Stevens.
